As the media began to usher obesity as a growing epidemic over the course of several decades, it has only gotten worse. Throughout America, more than 73 million adults of the country would be considered obese according to a recent study conducted by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). It is evident that these adults were not provided with a proper education on their health, leading them to a life of obesity. Not only have adults been affected, but children and adolescents as well. Obesity has doubled in children, and quadrupled amongst adolescents, both over a span of 3 decades (CDC). In 1980 7% of the children in America where obese, versus nearly 18% in 2012. Yet Americans seem to be oblivious to their path of obesity. "At a time of growing concern over childhood obesity, a new report shows kids get 12% of their calories from fast-food restaurants" (Szabo, 1). The consumption of calories are typically associated with energy, and body weight, and most of all, it is a contributing factor to one's health. This is quite alarming, that young Americans intake over 12% of their needed energy from fast-food restaurants and is a factor of childhood obesity.
The correlation of little physical activity and obesity exist as well. In a recent study conducted by a government reporter "...U.S...spend about 6 hours per day in a sedentary position—either sitting or reclining. They added that many studies have linked such sedentary behaviors to obesity" (Government Reporter, 6), showing that obesity is in almost every aspect of life unless handled properly.
