In 2012, Pepsi released their effective commercial that featured One Direction and Drew Brees arguing over who gets the last Pepsi commercial. To persuade the audience, Pepsi uses celebrity cameos, product logos, and a slogan. This helps prove their claim that Pepsi is the best soda and that consumers should buy their product. The main device used effectively in this commercial is the celebrity cameos. When consumers see celebrities, especially ones that they like, in commercials, their desire to buy the product is increased. Seeing the celebrities makes the consumer think, “If this celebrity uses this product, it must be good.” After watching this Pepsi commercial when it first aired, I wanted to buy Pepsi. Therefore, by including One Direction, teen girls will want to buy Pepsi, and by including Drew Brees, football fans will want to buy Pepsi. In our society, late-night television is among the most popular shows on TV, such as The Late Late Show, Saturday Night Live, The Tonight Show, etc. Therefore, Pepsi sets the scene in one of these environments. Also, Harry Styles holds up a Billboard magazine featuring One Direction before saying “On the cover.” Billboard magazine was a popular magazine during this time, so One Direction being featured on the cover of it implies they are important, which makes consumers want to buy Pepsi more. Drew Brees holds up his Super Bowl trophy, which is effective because the Super Bowl is one of America’s largest and most famous sports events. Before the celebrities are shown, the Pepsi can is shown. This is effective because it is the first thing to catch the audience’s eyes.
