Proverbs 12:11, “Those who work their land will have abundant food, but those who chase fantasies have no sense.” Most people realize that the early settlers in America endured many tribulations such as food shortages, fights with Indians, quarrels among leaders, and more. What most people do not realize is that many of these early settlers squandered their time, wasted their energy, and were generally lazy and idle. This was a huge problem for early Americans because in order to survive, it was vital that they work. Why were these early Americans not motivated to work?
My goal is to become a primary doctor working with underserved communities, especially the Latino community. My work and volunteer experience and my professional goal are committed to provide service to the community with cultural competence, diversity and service orientation. CMSRU humanistic education in the art and science of medicine will complement these life experiences, characteristics, as well as my professional and personal interests and goals. Personal Statement Last summer I had the opportunity of participating in the U54 Sumer Research Program and it was an incredible experience, because it helped me in my professional development and discerns my future carrier goals. I want to return to MD Anderson Cancer Center, because it counts with a variety of physician scientists and physicians that integrate their clinical work with innovating research and this will improve my development as a future physician and researcher. Being able to do research in my area of interest and having the experience of a clinical rotation in pediatric oncology help me diced that I want to become an MD. I also plan on applying to and going to medical school upon receiving my bachelors in Biology. My career goals are to practice obstetrics and gynecology. The International Summer Camps are very enlightening because they have allowed me to not only be healthy and take part in physical activity; but to embrace my culture, assist youth in acknowledging the importance of education, take part in team oriented workshops, and listen to key speakers that overcame great adversity. Nurses are hands-on professionals who provide attentive and very personalized care. Their main job is to promote health, prevent disease and help their patients cope with illness. The nursing field offers a wide range of career options, which varies from entry-level practitioner to doctoral-level researcher.
At Willamette University, I believe I will be challenged academically and will be prepared for my future career in medicine.
