Leadership Style

Leaders are an essential aspect when teamwork is needed. Leadership involves the capability of motivating individuals to achieving a shared goal. It is the duty of a leader to find each individual’s ability to assist in reaching that goal. There are many different leadership styles. In this paper I will discuss my own style of leadership based on a self-assessment quiz. I will also describe theories that work well with my style and some actions that are needed in a work environment for my personal style of leadership.

The trait theory revolves around the leader’s individual attributes. Specific kinds of traits make for a better leader. This goes even further into the trait theory of characteristics of management, which are four things: knowing a leader is someone with followers, popularity and leadership are not equal terms, leaders are seen for setting an example for others, and leadership is not based on length of service but on accountability (Huber, 2014). The attitudinal theory involves the reaction that is emitted by the behavior of the leader (Huber, 2014). Situational theory is used when the situation is looked at first, then the leadership style is matched to the situation (Huber, 2014). There are also several management theories involved in leadership. The contingency theory means there is no one method or best approach to an approach to management. Managers must take each situation as it happens and choose a style that fits. Systems theory is similar to the butterfly effect in that if you change one thing, then it has the potential to change everything. One aspect of a system that has been changed has the potential to change everything involved in that system. Complexity theory is a methodical study of complexly connecting structures. Having a leader who exhibits certain behaviors is vital to a stable place of work for employees. Effective communication is vital for leaders in a functioning environment. The staff at any organization must feel comfortable going to the leaders in their workplace. They also must be able to work together as a team to achieve their goals. Along the way of reaching that goal, the leader should be able to determine the next course of action of the team. One way to provide a cohesive team environment is to ensure that there is a proper ration of nurses to patients so nurses can provide appropriate care. That is one way leaders can show the employees respect and give them recognition they deserve. A leader should also show genuineness and fairness. Authenticity goes a long way in the
