As a freshman who was simply looking to get involved in his school's organizations, I could not have imagined just how much joining the Key Club would impact my life in the long run. My involvement in the Kiwanis Key Club was invaluable to my growth during my high school years because it served as a link to my community and an opportunity to exercise valuable leadership skills.

I tested the waters in my junior year as a treasurer, and my positive experiences as treasurer for the Key Club encouraged me to apply for the office of the vice president. I secured the position for my senior year and became much more involved in club proceedings. I now had the responsibility of working with my president and sponsors to develop new ideas for the club, make decisions regarding how the club would be run (such as our decision to introduce member dues for the 2016-2017 school year), and prepare myself to lead a meeting in the case that the president was absent. I had held officer positions before, but none were as demanding as my role as vice president for the Key Club. We began working during the summer, and the effort I put into my duties was ultimately worthwhile as I saw the club progress and accomplish more during this school year than ever before. Key Club allowed me to realize my potential as a leader and the great rewards and accomplishments that result from stepping up to the role.
