Having a strong interest and background in the health science field, I hope to attain a career in pharmacy. There are many reasons I aspire to become a pharmacist, however, my main reason is to help others. Specifically, I want to make a difference in peoples’ lives. Prescribing the correct drugs to a patient can help relieve pain, cure illness, or even save his or her life. I have witnessed the positive effects certain drugs can have on someone firsthand. My younger brother, who was diagnosed with autism at an early age, is prescribed to take medication daily to help him function throughout the day. The medications he takes facilitates many situations and processes for him that would otherwise be difficult. This inspired me as a child to further my knowledge of medication as I grew up. Growing up in a funeral home in rural Iowa with strict parents, I quickly learned the expectations that were required: to behave professionally and be disciplined. Studying, practicing sports, or working- these were the activities that consumed my days. The discipline I endured in my childhood created a drive for success within me. I have always demanded the best of myself both mentally and physically. As a result, I achieved academic and athletic accolades throughout my earlier years. An important principle for me to retain a constant, strong work-ethic has been to always remain active. Every day I use my time to better myself. The principles I have developed will be applied to help me achieve my goal of attaining a Doctor of Pharmacy
