In our modern day culture, the attitudes of altruism and service have become seemingly rare. A select few put aside their preferable comforts and choose to step in the direction of aiding others. These uncommon few, known as global citizens, seek to discover new ways of making the world around them a better place. Personally, I believe that as a global citizen, one must understand that they have a responsibility beyond themselves. This responsibility requires them to look outside of what they know and to work in entirely different territories to advance the society. There are many different ways to be a global citizen, whether it involves teaching others, working to help others, or creating things that will solve problems found across the world. The Barrett Honors College aspires to develop global citizens. The diversity of students and staff members will exponentially broaden my view of the world. The challenge of partnering with new peers and developing communication skills and teamwork will demonstrate that working in fellowship accomplishes more than toiling as an individual. Articulating thoughts in a discussion based classroom will solidify my beliefs and help me discover myself. Access to professors, whom are experts in their respective fields, will provide pathways to understanding the world and how we can bring positive change. I will be expected to exercise the idea of sustainability, which includes growth, consumption, development, and taking responsibility to ensure the well-being of all people. I want to make a difference in the world, and I am convinced that my experience with the Barrett Honors College will prepare me to be a successful global
