My primary reason for pursuing a degree in science is to contribute to the betterment of other people’s health and lives. I am pursuing a science education, so I can help people, not only in the community, which I was raised but also around the globe. Something that has always tugged at my heart, is the hope to be able to donate back to my hometown, helping people there, that are in need. You truly never know what someone is going through, and I say this from experience. It’s important for me to impact people’s lives through medicine because I’ve seen my family struggle watching a loved one, battle with cancer. Medicine and science are what drives me to continue this, as my career. It is my way to give back, in honor of my grandmother. My professional goals are to get a doctorate degree in pediatrics and eventually join doctors without borders. My long-term goal is to own my own practice and provide care for families locally. BUGS is a group which furthers student’s professional careers, in biology related fields. Cru is a bible study group that gets together each week. Bridge Club is a volunteer based club. Members of the club meet with other people, and prepare lunches for those in need, in the Toledo Area. As part of Bridge Club, I also was able to take part in tent city, which involved walking to raise money for veterans, in need of housing. While in high school, I was a member of National Honors Society as well as a Jr. Rotarian. As a member of both of these groups, I was able to conduct meetings and volunteer time around my community.
