I decided to become a Political Science major because I have always had an interest in political activism and had a desire to make a difference in the lives of people in my community. Living in one of the most poverty stricken areas of Brooklyn I had an acute awareness of the burden that having a severe lack of resources in one’s community places on people. While there are ways to go about helping people through volunteerism and participating in various community service activities, I believe that true change won’t occur unless it happens in the policies that affect people’s everyday lives. Integrity is a highly valued quality in the workplace because it is important for employees to maintain a high moral standard at work, which includes remaining honest and staying true to their values. Having integrity means that the rules of the workplace are respected and are reflected in the way one interacts with their coworkers and costumers. Today, most workplaces have employees with diverse ethnic backgrounds, religious or political beliefs, and experiences. It is at the utmost importance that these differences in experience and perspective be respected. Not only is having diversity in the workplace a way to expose workers to a wide variety of views that they can learn from, but it also encourages tolerance and respect for others. Therefore, integrity and respect and arguably the most important ethics to have while at work. Another important value to have at the workplace is confidentiality because it is expected that employees do not share company information or the information of others, which is especially crucial to remember in fields where you deal with many clients. This is an illegal act and can greatly affect the company as well as others. Therefore, it is important that employees respect the confidentiality and privacy of any information shared at the company. Lastly, the maintenance of professional behavior while at work is an important practice because as an employee one is expected to represent the company while doing any work-related business. This is reflected in the way one interacts with others -- in person, on the phone, or through emails -- how one dresses, what someone does while they are supposed to be working, etc. Thus, these are all viable “ethics of the
