My experience abroad would not only be an incredible academic endeavor for me, but also would be a personal enlightenment as well. I have never traveled outside the United States before, so I have looked forward to going abroad ever since I chose Loyola and came to college. While Loyola has an eclectic mix of people from all over the country as well as internationally, I enthusiastically await the chance to combine my studies and everyday life in a place outside of my comfort zone. Challenging though it may be to adapt to a seemingly foreign way of life, I could not imagine anything else I would want to experience more. My grandmother was born in Ireland, and the Irish culture has a special presence in my family’s life. It would be an amazing opportunity explore the countries culture, history, traditions coupled with a first-hand experience of part of my heritage. In order to gain a well-rounded and deep understanding for academia and life in general, it is important to see other lifestyles and social conventions. In addition, a new perspective on my major and core class that differ from Loyola and my previous schooling would allow me to reap the benefits of a wholesome educate for years to come. After completing a study abroad program, I would return home with a new outlook on culture and education which definitely will be applicable when I seek employment in the workforce.

What excites me most about this opportunity is what I will uncover about myself. The responsibility of traveling to a new place may test me in new situations that would bring about a stronger sense of independency. I intend to gain new hobbies and interests that I may not have pursued here at home in the United States. Even though I have strong ties to clubs and organizations at Loyola, I plan to utilize the skills I have learned abroad. Through my membership and devoted participation in
