Becoming a physician is not merely a career choice, but rather the pursuit of what I believe to be my vocation. There have been a handful of pivotal events in my life that have momentously influenced my perspective on my social and moral duty, and have thus led me to pursue a life of constant learning and service. In order for these events to have the impact that they currently do, I had to be primed to recognize the significance of such events, and consequently allow their lessons to be of guidance. I was born and raised in a modest household in a semi-rural community in Ghana. Although we did not live in poverty, my parents had to work diligently to secure our needs. Although the magnitude of this move was obvious due to my young age and the fact that I was moving away from my parents, the valuable lesson lay in the circumstances that made this move a reality. Due to a series of fortunate events, I was introduced to people who dedicated their careers to uplifting young people, especially those from underserved backgrounds. As a result, I was able to attain a quality education from in the United States that would eventually impact my moral and intellectual life. I have been able to attain my current success partly due to the sacrifices people have made for me, and I have pledged my career to do the same. The work of a physician is one of sacrifice: I have to place the well being of individuals before my comfort and ego, along with focusing many years of continuous studies on thoroughly understanding the human body, and various methods of healthcare administration. Such sacrifice requires a selfless nature, which I have exhibited in my involvement of various community service projects including food banks, clothes banks, and providing care to the aged. In order to enhance my passion for a career in the medical field, I spent two of my college summers working as a physician assistant and shadow, as well as performing basic nursing procedures. During my orientation for the first summer, I was introduced to the dynamic and symbiotic relationship between the various groups in the clinical setting. The professionalism and intellect exhibited by the physicians and supporting staff solidified my desire to work in such a productive environment. Working with a group of people who have dedicated their careers to one of service brought to reality what one might think an idealized environment, and wherefore encouraged my resolve. The intellect and thorough knowledge exhibited by the physicians also served as a testament to their dedication to years of continuous studies and personal edification, thus making them viable role models to
