Statement of Purpose
I began my teaching career at the Miami-Dade County Public Schools District in the fall of 1999. I remember vividly that on my first day that my administrator handed me a pacing guide and a textbook. I was left alone to figure out the best way to keep my student engaged in the learning process. I took the challenge and infused technology into my teaching. Over the years, I have witnessed a paradigm shift in both the delivery and acquisition of knowledge; as digital classrooms replaced paper textbooks and whiteboard, student engagement improved dramatically. I encourage and support activities that promote diversity, instructional flexibility, community involvement, integrity, collaboration and professional growth. I believe that respect for self and others is the foundation for a successful relationship with all stakeholders. I feel that socio-economic factors should not deter learning; therefore, it’s possible that every child, regardless background, be afforded the same educational opportunities. I have been recognized for my effectiveness in providing instruction and educational support to students from diverse backgrounds. I have taught students with special needs on both sides of the spectrum while facilitating the inclusion process in collaboration with the general education teachers. Implementation of technology in my instructional delivery has had a tremendous impact in my classroom. I have impacted students’ learning and achievement by enabling students to play a more active role in their learning. Moreover, I have come to the understanding that a highly effective educator is a leader in and outside of the classroom. In departmental and faculty meeting, I participate in the implementation of curricular and collaborate with other departments to develop technology-driven teaching and learning strategies that enhance student learning and achievement.
