I really want to become involved with any type of student leadership that is available. Over the past year I have been excited to come to school every day because I have to opportunity to be around and talk to so many great people. I definitely want to leave my mark on the community of students and make a positive impact on the school and students. I have developed skills in leadership and responsibility that I want to utilize to make the school a better place for others. 11.
Through trial and error, I have learned how to effectively incorporate these values into my daily life, to be seen as an influential figure. My main area of leadership is through sports. I have coached kids in lacrosse and hockey youth programs and shown what it means to be a dedicated player at a higher level. Additionally, I have been a JV captain for sports such as volleyball and hockey.
Being a fairly shy person, it can be difficult to step out of my comfort zone and lead, but I like to think that I am a valuable leader when I step up. In middle school, I have had a great deal more leadership opportunities than in high school as I am only a sophomore, but I am actively seeking leadership roles in the classroom and activities I participate in. Holding a position as a club officer for Cub Club throughout my 7th and 8th grade years has taught me a great deal about what it means to truly be a leader. Leadership requires responsibility, commitment to doing the best you can for your community and the people you lead, and overcoming obstacles. During my time as a club officer, we partnered with Children’s Village, first when we did the Christmas toy drive, then when we went through training to volunteer with the kids.

Candidate Personal Statement: Why do you want to be a part of student government? I want to be a part of student government because I want to further serve my community within Flushing High School as well as support people I hold dear within the school. If I were elected to student government, I would want to unite the community as well as succeed in performing my leadership duties within the student community. My personal leadership philosophy is more compassionate than I realized. As shown in Exercise one, which analyzes if you focus more on being power-oriented, achievement-oriented, and concerned with human welfare. My scores for that exercise came out to be: Column One- 18, Column Two- 29, and Column Three- 25. This means I have a strong concern for human welfare than being power-oriented and achievement-oriented, but I am more achievement-oriented than power-oriented. I am applying to join the Leadership Development Programme primarily because I wish to be able to teach and inspire students from all walks of life. The Teach First mission speaks volumes to my own morals and goals. I believe that all children, no matter their socioeconomic background nor the area that they live, should go without an excellent education. As the programme boasts having a direct link between it and improved GCSE results in the schools that it has worked with, it strikes me as not only being worthwhile for my own personal growth, but that of any children that it would give me the opportunity to teach.
