My philosophy in the classroom begins with the behavior of the classroom. The behavior of the classroom cannot be predicted for everyday but it can be managed and controlled effectively by having a good balance of discipline in the classroom. Establishing myself as the head of the classroom to my students will create a level of respect. I plan on showing my students the same level of respect that they show me in the classroom. I believe that students do not need to be controlled or monitored 24/7 just to behave in a classroom. When rules are established and enforced in the classroom students must be aware of these rules and the consequences. Making them aware of the rules and procedures for breaking these rules is how to effectively teach them self-discipline. I will give students the option to voice their opinions in the classroom and work with them to help reach the goals that they would like to see. I will work with the parents of my students to help them reach their expectations and to maximize their potential. With the established rules I will have, I will allow students input on should the consequences remain the same or should they vary upon severity. I will then discuss with the parents that the students helped me with establishing these consequences and that if there are any misconducts the students are well aware of the consequence because they helped form them. Managing my classroom is what I would love to do the majority of the time in the class in place of disciplining them. The difference I see between the two is that managing is allowing the students to be themselves and trust that they are doing their work and not just throwing discipline at them.
