Personal Background I have wanted to be a teacher since I was in the third grade. I was inspired by all of my teacher’s willingness to help me learn Spanish when all I knew to speak was English in Puerto Rico. My wanting to be a teacher was later reinforced in my life when my family and I moved to Florida when I was in middle school. When I was in middle school I only knew how to speak Spanish and everyone at the school helped me learn English. I was taught how to talk, read, and write in English with the help of ESOL professionals. It was then when I realized what kind of teacher I wanted to be. I want to be the kind of teacher that inspires and motivates students. I will be the kind of teacher that points out different directions, allow …show more content…
This will allow my students to have access to anything they need to complete assignments and have something to do when work is completed. My desk will be located on the front of the classroom and will be welcoming to students if I happen to be sitting at my desk. I will have classroom rules posted where students can see them every day and I will go over them frequently. I will assess student learning with less emphasis on group norms and hold one on one student teacher meetings in class to check if any of my students need …show more content…
I am not sure that I have one type of discipline to follow. I believe choice theory, assertive discipline, and conflict resolution, will all be juggled in my class depending on the situation. If the students can resolve a conflict among themselves then I will let them do so. If the problem escalades then I will use a more assertive measure. I will have classroom rules that will need to be followed to prevent some misbehavior. At the end of each week I can give a reward to the class for behaving the entire week. I will give the students kudos when they correct their misbehavior.
Classroom Climate As a teacher I will develop a positive student teacher relationship where my students have a voice. I will allow my students to engage in dialogue and ask questions. Each student will know that they are being heard and that their thoughts and way of learning matters. I will allow my students to explore and make mistakes. Students can ask one another questions and respond respectfully. I will ask my students questions and when they answer I will build on it and make them feel good. I will also take advantage of teaching moments when they arise.
