Animal testing is a very controversial subject. Many people feel that it is necessary to test on animals before testing it with a human. However, with the technology that is available to us today, animal testing does not always have to be the answer. First of all, testing on animals is very ineffective because humans are so different from other animals such as mice or dogs. “90 percent of medications approved for human use after animal testing later proved ineffective or harmful to humans in tests on humans,” writes Kelly Overton. She also mentions that animal testing is nothing compared to what has been developed by recent technology. Adult stem cells, which are cells that are in human tissue, can be used to research diseases in humans. Using the stem cells and clinical trials (a test where people volunteer or get paid to test a product or to help with a study) …show more content…
After all, it has saved several lives through everything that they have unknowingly helped us discover. “The availability of "transgenic mice" (which have added genes) and "knock-out mice" (which have disabled genes) has revolutionized our understanding of cancer, Parkinson's disease, cystic fibrosis, heart disease, memory loss, muscular dystrophy and spinal cord injuries. The so-called "nude mouse" -- lacking a functioning immune system -- has become an incredibly important model for understanding cancer suppression,” writes Frankie L. Trull. While it is amazing how many people have been helped. This quote alone proves that animals suffer not for their benefit but for ours and that they purposefully receive deformations and issues with their body for them to be tested on and then disposed of. Animals should only be tested on if they are being tested for their benefit, so if a dog is being tested for a medication for heartworm or fleas that is fine because it is something that is a necessary treatment for
