Climate change is the most pressing issue humanity has faced so far and if not correctly dealt with may very well be the end to humanity. Many countries are currently working toward a more environmentally friendly state yet this is not their main focus as economics, culture, and politics come into play. A majority of the world’s population is too concerned with their immediate problems causing a lack of the long-term vision and leading to harmful actions. The main hurdle in fighting global climate change is educating the pubic on the subject and making it socially acceptable to put the global good before ones personal greed, easier said than done. Currently the Earth is warming much more than it should be during the current post-ice-age stage were in. Over the most recent million years our Earth has risen 4 to 7 degrees Celsius over a time period of roughly 5,000 years (Global Warming: Featured Articles). Today it is rising ten times faster than the average rate, during the past century alone the temperature has risen .7 degrees Celsius (Global Warming: Featured Articles). Although these changes to global temperature seem to be slight rest assured they are great. The temperature is dependent on the amount of energy entering and leaving the planets atmosphere. Greenhouse Effect can be defined as the warming of the surface and lower atmosphere of a planet (as Earth or Venus) that is caused by conversion of solar radiation into heat in a process involving selective transmission of short wave solar radiation by the atmosphere, its absorption by the planet's surface, and reradiation as infrared which is absorbed and partly reradiated back to the surface by atmospheric gases
