In fact, former President Richard Nixon advocated for its legalization back in the 1960s. The legalization of recreational marijuana has the potential to bring in huge amounts of commerce to state and federal governments through taxation, as well as create a large number of jobs. Recreational marijuana can be heavily taxed and could bring in hundreds of millions of dollars of tax money following a nationwide legalization. Marijuana is one of the safest drugs known to man. It is in fact much safer than alcohol which is legally available for sale for anyone 21 years old or older. Alcohol has a fatal dose, whereas marijuana does not.
