There are many diseases, mental illnesses, and disorders that are not treatable by using traditional medications. That’s where medical marijuana comes into play. Marijuana is capable of making many people who are struggling with almost any type of illness feel normal again. With the use of medical marijuana only being legal in 29 states: Washington D.C., Guam, and Puerto Rico, medical marijuana is hard to come across. Marijuana has the potential to cause a patient even more health issues than they started out with. It could lead to an increased risk of certain cancers, like lung cancer, testicular cancer, and cancer in the respiratory tract (Bergeson). Those are just some of the physical problems of marijuana. Using marijuana also impacts one’s mental stability, increasing the risk for acute psychosis and chronic mental illnesses including schizophrenia (Bergeson).
