Should cannabis be legalized on a national level? There are two sides to every coin, some people think marijuana should be legalized as a recreational drug, others think that it should only be used medicinally, and some believe that it should not be used at all. Marijuana used to be legal until 1937, when big pharmaceutical companies started to push opioids and aspirins. Now people are pushing for the legalization of Marijuana again because both opioids and aspirins can be addictive, while marijuana is not. Marijuana should be legal on a national level as a recreational drug.

This becomes a problem when people are driving intoxicated. There is also no easy way to discover if food in vehicles are laced with pot. Another big problem is that it is hard for children to discern what is food and what is their parents candy, Colorado saw an increase in children hospitalizations because of marijuana because you cannot tell the difference between a pot brownie and a normal brownie. Still the number of kids that were hospitalized was only in the double digits. The biggest argument against legalizing marijuana is that people call it a gateway drug. The reason people think that marijuana is a gateway drug is because when a substance such a tobacco, alcohol, or marijuana is socially available, odds are that other drugs are going to be available. For minors cannabis is a gateway drug, that is why the age of legal consumption of recreational marijuana where it is legal is 21.

One strong argument for legalizing Marijuana is that there are no deaths associated with marijuana. Per the scientific community it is impossible to overdose on it. You can overdose on lsd, opioids, amphetamines, nicotine, alcohol, caffeine, along with countless other drugs.
