Cannabis, a drug used to heighten the mood of an individual, relax, and increase appetite. In the United States today, only four states have legalized the use of marijuana. The rest of the states have either made it completely illegal or decriminalized weed, using it as a recreational drug. Marijuana should be legalized throughout the country. It will help out the country in a broad range of ways. People are scared of what they don't know, thinking it's a gateway drug to dangerous and more harmful drugs like meth, cocaine, and heroine. Other gateway drugs like cigarettes and alcohol have been legalized even though it's been proven a majority of the time that cigarettes cause cancer, lung problems, and lives. Cannabis is helping Americans who know it's better for their health then other narcotics. Marijuana provides a relief from pain, nausea, spasticity, and other symptoms for people who have not been treated successfully with normal medications("High Times"). Many American adults prefer marijuana over the use of alcohol for a moderate way to relax, developing tolerances to side affects associated with the drug. Those who do not, choose to stop using the drug. The greatest risk of using marijuana is the relatively low risk of arrest. According to High Times magazines, marijuana is too expensive for our justice system, Law enforcement agencies have more important responsibilities then arresting 750,000 individuals a year for marijuana possession(pew-research.com).
