Students are not learning from Standardized Tests, rather they are flunking them. So, Students should not be taking Standardized Tests because it causes stress, it does not improve the students, and scores are influenced by external factors.
Taking Standardized Tests causes stress to the students takin the test. About 16-20% pf students have highly tests anxiety, making this the most prevalent scholastic impairment in our schools today. Another 18% are troubled by moderately-high test anxiety (American Test Anxieties Association). This shows how students brain are affected by anxiety. Students worry so much about the test itself and get so nervous they forget what they studied. Also, students are already so tense the pressure of tests adds …show more content…

A 2001 study published by the Brooklings Institution found that 50-80% of year-over-year test score are temporary and caused by fluctuations that had nothing to do with long-term changes in learning...(Standardized Tests-Pro Con). This just shows how students study for the test because they are forced to take the test. It's temporary because students try to study the information because they know they have a test instead of understanding it and then after the test they forget what they were just tested on. The education has become all about the Standardized Tests, whether it is the teachers teaching the students to prepare them for the test or the students memorizing the information to pass the test. Where did all the passion for learning go? When did education become all about passing the tests? The other side is, students do benefit from taking Standardized Tests. "Standardized Tests are reliable and objective measures of student achievement" (Standardized Tests-Pro Con). Although, students memorize all the information right before the test. Memorizing the information does not benefit the students in the long-term, rather it benefits them only then because they got a good grade. Students show no affection to these tests so, really the scores are only temporary because they only remember the information for that time
