Syria is currently in the midst of a violent civil war. Imagine you are a Syrian citizen. You no longer feel safe in your own home, so you make the impossible decision to flee to a neighboring country so that your family can feel safe and your children can get an education. But you find that the camps you’ve sought refuge in are almost worse, overcrowding leaves clean water scarce and keeps your children out of school.
This is a common story of a Syrian refugee, and we have the power to save and improve the lives of 10,000 of these people.
I believe the United States should accept 10,000 refugees and more not only because it is the right thing to do, but also to give Syrians an alternative to joining ISIS and the widespread cultural and economic

This doesn’t concern us, so why should we help? According to World Vision, the Syrian civil war began with the Syrian people protesting peacefully against the Syrian government, but the protests escalated into a full scale civil war. World powers became involved, including the United States. We are providing aid to the rebels, the people of Syria! Are we prepared to turn our backs on our allies when they need us the most? Especially when we are fighting a common enemy, ISIS. So far we have been allied with the Syrian people, however if you were escaping war and denied refuge by a country because of your religion, how would you feel? Bitter? Resentful? If we reject these refugees the message ISIS preaches rings with a lot more truth: that the United States and western civilization is unholy, and cruel. We are fueling the hatred for the west and so persuading more people to join ISIS’s ranks if not to exact revenge over the US, then for protection, which we so impolitely denied.
By accepting these people, we send a message to ISIS, that we will not let them control our actions, we will not let the terror they are trying to spread take
