Don’t you ever get the urge to respond to a text message as soon as you hear your phone vibrate? Texting and driving has become a universal problem today, focusing mainly on young teenagers. Taking your eyes off of the road for more than two seconds can lead to a serious accident. It is extremely important to be able to fight the urge to text and drive. You definitely do not want to be the reason why you or someone else goes to the hospital. Many people do not understand the importance of keeping their eyes on the road while driving. According to a new study conducted by the Transport Research Laboratory, it has been stated that texting and driving has led to a higher risk of an accident than drinking and driving (Arce). Being aware of this should be a sign that there needs to be a punishment for texting and driving just as high as those who obtain a DUI. If more people were aware of how closely related these dangerous actions are, they will definitely think twice about answering a text message next time.
Being alert while driving is extremely important. Your loved ones will be extremely devastated to receive a text or phone call letting them know something has happened to you. A text message is definitely not worth losing your life. Not only are you setting yourself up for a serious accident, but you are also risking the life of someone else.
