Sleep deprivation is a very big problem in schools. Some even call it an epidemic. This problem is usually blamed on early start times. Students believe that the first bell should be moved back so they can get some more sleep. However, this may not be the only reason.
There are many speculation on if schools should start later. Yes school should start later because students need more sleep, there would be better attendance and there would be less car crashes among teens. This essay will explain why school should start later, and how it is important for students. One reason school should start later is sleep. Students need at least seven hours of sleep at night, when they don't get enough sleep they become less motivated.

Teenagers aren’t getting the sleep they need to have their minds and bodies function correctly. Not getting enough sleep can lead to many health problems. Teenagers and kids not getting their sleep can result in many different mental and physical problems.
Have you ever wanted to start school later if you have you might be in luck. A lot of kids are not getting enough sleep. It's important because every needs sleep in their life. Some reasons are healthy and safety, kids don't get enough sleep, and they are more happier when a wake. Going on to a new reason is why schools should start later for healthy and safety reasons.
School should start early, to avoid any conflict; for example, the “nearly impossible” schedule change and the extra expenses. In the article “Should school stay early” it states “School starting later means changing a teens whole schedule which in many cases may be nearly impossible.” This statement helps the reader understand that this schedule change is “nearly impossible”. Some are in favor of this change, while others oppose it.
Many times in my life, I have overslept or just didn’t want to wake up and missed the bus to go to school. I can guarantee that everyone has had this experience and it isn’t an unusual thing. The school makes you stay up late to study and wake up early to go to school, but the thing is you won’t be able to focus for the whole day. I think schools should start later in the day because it can improve health, better choices, and even grades. Therefore schools should push the time that school starts.

I get up, eat breakfast, and prepare for a long and tiring day at school. In the US, most high schools start at times like 7:15, 7: 25, or 7:30 in the morning. Many people across the US are now fighting to push school start times later in the morning, because of new studies that prove that teenagers benefit more from later school start times. Eastern View High School should have a later school start time, because teenagers will get more sleep, perform better in school, and improve the safety of teenagers.
Kids will get up early to go to school and still feel sleepy because they're sleep-deprived and that can affect how they perform in school. Kids, especially teenagers should be able to get at least nine hours of sleep so they can be able to function properly in school. If we had late start every day then the school would have to push back sports. People would also have to quit sports or not be able to play as much if they were doing out of school sports. Also people wouldn’t be able to do as much after school. Kids would also wait last minute to do homework.
These things will improve one’s health. In addition to improving one’s health, it is also better for one’s concentration. The average student needs about ten hours of sleep; however, most students, especially teens, only get around seven hours of sleep. If school started later students would be able to sleep in and therefore get more sleep which would increase their concentration in class.
Many people argue whether school start times should stay the same or become later in the day. Most students already don't get enough sleep during the night and that can affect their learning experience in school (Wahlstrom). However some positive effects can still come from waking up early in the morning and getting to school around the same time. Although good can come from waking up early in the morning and sleeping in, students still need later school starting times to improve their overall health.
I think that sleep is very crucial for kids and teens attending school, and it is a must, therefore I consider school to become later on in the morning. High schoolers need on the average 7 hours of sleep, some students go to bed around midnight, and never get enough sleep. It also really does depend on when you go to sleep, however, even students going to bed around 9:00 have troubles waking up. The school with the earliest starting time is 5:30 am, this can become something very stressful over periods of time. When students are given enough sleep it advances the grades and test scores for students.
