What changes throughout Harter Middle School would better benefit the students and staff inside it, and how? Some changes may be difficult, while some may be almost effortless, but overall a change in our period structure, lunch options/freedom, and student-teacher relationships would all give a better learning experience both socially, and educationally to everyone.
The structure of our school day desperately needs a change. This includes both time, and class options. For starters, our time spent in school should be shortened. If we had a later start, students would feel more refreshed. Many kids have to wake up very early to catch their bus. Thus, making them feel tired throughout the school day. If students were able to have more time to sleep they would get a better learning experience. In addition to amount of sleep, students would have a longer time to get their homework done. Many students are included in after school activities such as sports, clubs, and more. As an effect of having after school activities they have little time to do homework. If the end of the school day were to be shortened, students would have more time for homework and their homework would be of a much higher quality. As well as time, students should have more class options such as a recess, or electives that the high school has. Although there is a gym period every day, some students have health for an entire and don't get to release all their built up energy from sitting in a classroom all day. If there were to be a recess added to the schedule, students would be able to run around and burn all their built up energy, giving them a better focus on the lesson being teached in class. Plus, an added recess would give students a better social opportunity, eventually leading to making new friends. Additionally, if students were given an opportunity to have more classes, they would be able to explore who they are and what their
