Classroom management encompasses many factors that all need to work in cohesion to provide a safe and productive classroom. The facets of management are developed to provide students with a positive environment that permits them to feel safe and able to take academic risks in the content of mathematics, while holding them accountable for working towards specific academic goals. Facets, such as seating plans, classroom rules, disciplinary procedures, and management procedures will be created on the basis of my future classroom.

The first is, “Be on time, on task, and prepared to learn everyday”. Students must have the right attitude to learn. Meaning, as the students enter the room, they know exactly what is expected of them and they put forth their best effort to engage in the interactions necessary to form connected knowledge in mathematics. Students approach the content with a growth mindset, taking risks to explore ideas. The maximum engagement with mathematics cannot occur if students are not on time nor on task. This means, being honest with the teacher and following directions as they are given. The teacher deserves respect for the time and effort that she dedicates to the class, just as she respects each student for the time and effort they dedicate. Respect for the classroom involves putting back the materials that are used during class and cleaning up after oneself. Providing peers with respect shows that the class is one community. Lend peers a helping-hand through collaboration because the success of the class relies on the success of each community member, or student. Lastly, respect yourself. Students need to believe in themselves that they can learn and be successful. The third rule, “Be responsible for your own learning,” ensures that students are putting forth the effort necessary to achieve their academic goals. If a student is working hard and showing persistence, they can succeed. Success for every student will look different, however, the effort that the teacher provides will only be as effective as the effort that the student puts
