I want to make a difference. Being a first-generation student, I know I the transition from high school to college can be very difficult for many individuals. Students invest a lot of time and energy in hopes to having a successful college experience. Students should have positive experiences both inside and outside the classroom. As a professional working in higher education, I hope to make a difference.
As I continue along my journey, I hope to continue working within higher education. Currently, working as a program advisor for the Diversity and Pre-College Center at UW-Waukesha, has been a life changing experience. I have not only grown as an individual, I have many positive experiences to take away. I want to continue to gain these experiences and better myself for my future. I want to make a difference in students’ lives and enable them to be successful. How can I do this to my best ability? The answer is continuing to choose the right college or university for me. By choosing the most accurate college, can allow me to work to my full potential. I feel that I can relate because the relationships that are created among students that I work with. The cognitive behavior therapy is based on assumptions that beliefs, behaviors, emotions and physical reactions are linked and changes in one area can lead to changes in another. I feel students can relate to this process and is very easy to understand. For example, if a student recognized they are missing class which leads to failing a class.
