In Donald Burns and David DiLeo’s book Ending Homelessness: Why We Haven't, How We Can, published in 2016, they calculated that 16% of unhoused individuals are women, around 30% are families with children, 59% are people of color, and about 30% are veterans. Although these numbers are estimates, the statistics show the variety of people who experience homelessness. The scale of this epidemic proves it is not a nuanced problem, so a

In our fast growing economy, especially in California, homelessness proves to be an ever growing problem. According to the U.S Interagency Council on Homelessness, in California, the total homeless people on a given night is 134,278. With the numbers broken down into groups, the largest group consist of people that chronically experience homelessness; the number totals to 37,360. The social issue that I picked is homelessness. Homelessness is a real issue, even if we don’t always see it. Homelessness doesn’t just mean you don’t have a roof over your head, it means you don’t have food, a good education, a healthy lifestyle, or a warm place to sleep every night. Some people don’t think very highly about homeless people, they think that it's their fault that they are where they are in life. Homelessness is going to end up becoming a bigger problem.
The prices of homes are rising so it makes it harder to find a decent home at an affordable price. Steve Brandt argues that “Advocates for the homeless blame the lingering effects of the Great Recession and soaring rents,“ (Homelessness increases despite the decade-long push to end it in Minneapolis, Hennepin County 1). In other words, people may start to think that homelessness may have something to do with expensive rents and the Great Recession. Such a statement proves that there is this definitely a problem. If people realize the rising prices could be making it harder to find a home that they can afford, then it is an issue.
Essay on The Homeless Introduction to Human Resources Columbia college By Kawana Roberts The issue of contemporary homelessness has took a huge shift from the common perception of homeless people. I am witnessing a shift from the image of ‘homelessness’ being a physically dirty, pan handling, poor, uneducated individual who does not have a physical home for shelter. Initially, I failed to recognize that ‘homelessness’ can be a temporary state on can live in. Not all homeless people are homeless by “choice”, sometimes people are homeless by “force”.
The Housing first model has been proven to create an incentive for people to get their lives back on track, it’s an approach that centers on providing homeless people with housing quickly and then providing services as needed. What make the Housing First approach different from other strategies is that there is an immediate and primary focus on helping individuals and families quickly access and sustain permanent housing, rather than an incentive to have problems that lead to homelessness. “We’ve saved millions (dollars) on this,” Gordon Walker said, “though the state hasn’t tallied the exact amount”. It basically says that giving people with problems that aren 't coping with the current system a stable environment to become productive actually costs the taxpayer less money, which over the longer term will be better for you as a taxpayer. Secondly, it increases our real standard of living reducing the amount desperate drug addicted people on the

Due to the economy, people live paycheck to paycheck making house payments very difficult. We have made it our mission to reach out to the homeless in the Fort Worth community and its’ surrounding counties. According to a survey conducted by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) in 2016, there were approximately 1,924 people either living unsheltered, in emergency shelters or in transitional housing in both Tarrant and Parker County. Many of these individuals are struggling with mental health disorders, abuse, abandonment, and loneliness. With your help we can provide the basic necessities such as warm blankets, coats, socks, undergarments, toiletries, backpacks, sleeping bags. In addition, we can provide them with community resource information that will help them rebuild their lives.
The issue of homelessness in America has been evident since the early 1600’s. Across the country men, women and children spend their nights on the streets not knowing when or if they will ever find a permanent home. States and federal officials or city councils have tried to alleviate or at least reduce the number of homeless over the last several decades at a city, state or national level but it continues to be an ongoing problem. There is a multitude of factors that account for the growing homeless population that affects each state in the country differently. Though there are many contributing factors that contribute to the amount of people living on the street at any given night in the U.S.
During the recent years homelessness has increased eminently. Although homelessness is not a new phenomenon it has become a huge social issue in today’s society. In urban areas homelessness is visible by the masses but ignored by society’s negative perception. Characterized as unstable individuals, alcoholics and criminals by society, these negative stereotypes have only escalate the issue. Homeless can occur at any stage of life for multitude of factors.
The problem of homelessness in the U.S.A. has to primary sociological theories that deal with homelessness. The first is the Conflict theory, which states that there are two opposing groups. In this case the homeless, and the wealthy. The wealthy use their power to exploit the homeless. This does imply that the wealthy are directly linked, however there is a little more nuance to the situation.

There are many reasons in which become homeless, and many of us ask ourselves should we help the homeless.
