Learning new skills in the drafting industry can mean learning new CAD software because when you start working you might only know AutoCAD, but the company may use other programs like Revit, Civil 3D, inventor, solid works and many more for different purposes, so it’s important to ask firms and research what programs are in demand for future employment. By learning new software, you will be able to take on more responsibility and demonstrate that you can complete projects effectively with the new programs you’ve learned. You can also take additional classes to expand your knowledge in different areas of study that apply in the drafting industry. For example, although the CAD technician may spend most of the day adding dimensions expressed in feet and inches, knowledge of advanced math is helpful for solving many building problems.
