Throughout each year in the United States, 26 million animals are used in lab testing (animal-testing.procon.org). In the laboratories, chemicals, in which are used in medical facilities and used by humans, are put on animals to determine if that certain chemical is toxic and or if it is safe for humans to handle it. Most of the chemicals used for testing are chemicals that are used in everyday products such as, paint, household cleaners, or dyes. A great deal of people sees the positives on animal testing; however, there are many reasons as to why lab testing on animals should be illegal in the United States. Inside of the laboratories, animals are locked inside cages; they have no control of anything that happens. “Animals are infected with diseases that they would never normally contract, tiny mice grow tumors as large as their bodies, kittens are purposely blinded, rats are made to suffer seizures, and primates’ skulls are cut open and electrodes are implanted in them” (peta.org). If we as a society showed this behavior towards humans, it would be stopped, yet laboratories in the United States do this to animals every day. Animals are put in highly painful procedures and then placed back into their cages, locked back up, with no painkillers (peta.org). After this occurs, animals fear seeing anyone who wanders near to their cage. That animal does not know what will happen next; all that it knows is the pain that he or she suffered before, so how could they trust a person to come back to their cage?
