Some may say animal testing ensures products are safety for human consumption. However, these testings goes against basic rights for living creatures. When picking out your mascara or eyeliner do you ever think what the story is behind the packaging and the product itself? “Over 100 million animals are burned, crippled, poisoned, and abused in US labs every year”(do something.org). Helpless and defenseless animals are being performed on for different types of experiments all around the world.
Animals can suffer like humans do, so it is speciesism to experiment on them instead of human. In animal experiments, animals can be burned, cut, mutilated, poisoned, turned into drug addicts or alcoholics, given diseases such as cancer or arthritis, crippled, blinded, starved, and brain damaged. Most of the time the animals are denied painkiller, for fear of affect on the experiment. The quality of life “ checklist” for an animal lists; hygiene, active/mobility, happiness or mental status, general behavior patterns,hydration, appetite, and pain.
