Should college athletes receive payment like that of an employee for every game they perform in? Some individuals would argue for this topic, while others may be against it. There are several pros and cons toward paying college athletes for their performance. One could argue that college athletes help bring in a high revenue of monetary contributions toward the college or university. Other’s would focus on these three points, many student athletes receive other benefits like scholarships, it’s too difficult, and paying college students would distract from the purity of the game. Few college teams actually bring in money. College football as well as men’s and women’s basketball are the money makers. Most other college sports are cash trapped, meaning they are only given a certain amount of funds each year from the university. If the team requires additional funds for traveling to away games or additional uniforms the team members must fundraise in order to raise those funds. With that being said is it fair to say that only college football and men’s and women’s basketball players get paid? An addition to that note where exactly are these salaries coming from? Does the university pay them, or are would the players receive payment from the NCAA? If a player were to receive payment how often would they get paid and how much? There is no doubt in anyone’s mind that being a college athlete is anything short of hard work. Players put their bodies out on the line everyday they step onto whichever field or court they are playing. On the other hand, what is a college player suffered a career ending injury? Who would pay out for their compensation of not being able to play anymore, then again who’s to say that specific player had a chance at the professional level
