Tennessee Vols, Alabama Crimson Tide, South Carolina Gamecocks, Florida Gators are many of the powerful college sports teams in the Southeastern Conference. College students, former college students and residents of the states all chant and cheer for their teams. Year after year, these teams are celebrated and seasons are greatly anticipated. Thousands of fans spend countless dollars on team souvenirs. Football has the biggest fan base, but basketball and baseball are followed as well. Colleges receive millions of dollars of revenue annually. These millions of dollars raise many questions about athletes and the part they play in this revenue. Most athletes never finish their degree. Therefore, they will use the incentives to come back to finish them. Some of the money that colleges use to bring back former athletes come from tax dollars (Gerdy). Other money to bring the athletes back can come from revenue. The net cost of colleges are higher after they calculate the revenue costs (Shulman). There are some colleges that are smaller than others, but it is the bigger ones that have more money to bring back those athletes (Shulman). College athletes will still argue that they should be paid. The athletes are paid by their education (Yankah). They work extremely hard to be able to play. Therefore, the athletes help bring in money for their college (Yankah). Most of the money that the athletes bring in are from sport souvenirs. The money the athletes bring in should go to help them. As a result, the money should go to the protection of the athletes. The money needs to be used to buy new equipment for the athletes. It can also be used for injured players. The athletes work so hard to play the sport they love. Therefore, colleges should be able to pay for the medical treatment with the money athletes bring in for the team. Finally, it comes to wrapping things up. In this research, there are reasons why athletes should not be paid. Colleges so way more for the athletes than they might realize. There are more than enough topics that could be covered, but these reasons are the most important. The topics that are covered are the ones that people always argue about in the real world.
