In regards to leaders themselves, the class guided me in my thought process of not only the leader I want to become for myself, but also reflect on those who I look up to and those who look up to me. For my own self growth, I want to set an examples for others as both someone who is ambitious and enthusiastic about the world around me. I try to live up to these characteristics on a daily basis and I strive for others to see the same in me. With that being said, those I look up to are people I see as those who have the qualities I live reflect each day, but they are those who I believe live up to them better than I do. Throughout my time at UNC Chapel Hill, I have gotten to know many remarkable students and have been able to grow close with people who I consider to be my closest friends. In the Lookout Scholars Program in particular, the EDUC 317 class is the fourth class we have all had together and we have all gotten to know each other. Though some know some better than others, we scholars are all connected by the program. All of us are first generation college students, yet we have such different backstories about how that and other experiences affected our lives growing up. I found it interesting that all of our unique paths ended up bringing us together at UNC Chapel Hill. During the leadership lense presentations, I found myself relating to the other scholars on such a deep level, going beyond similar academic interests into the characteristics of the struggles we went through growing up. These presentations allowed me to realize two things about my fellow classmates, the first being that I really don’t know my fellow scholars or anyone else at UNC like I think I do. We all come from such diverse backgrounds that differ from each others’ in countless ways, so I came to the realization that it is never safe to assume anything about one another. The second realization I came to know after watching enough of these presentations is that though we all come from a variety of backgrounds, the scholars are all just as identical in their ambition and drive to get to where they are now: students at the University of North Carolina at Chapel
