Introduction & Background Latinos in the United States have a long and complicated history and the same goes for Latino American music and the role the United States played. The U.S has been a playing ground for Latinos to created new music for instance, in New York salsa was first created, Tejano music in Texas and many others. However, while the United States may have helped Latin America develop their music, it’s difficult for Latinos to fit into the United States mainstream. Julio Iglesias started his career in 1968 and throughout the years he started singing in the seven languages he knows. Despite having fame in various countries, Iglesias was determined to enter the U.S market and he began by learning more about the United States and its people. Julio Iglesias made duets with famous American singers such as Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross and Willie Nelson. In addition, Iglesias was, invited by Ronald Reagan to be part of the Christmas celebration at the White House. His impact across the world has won him various important awards such as a Grammys, Latin Grammy, Billboard Awards and more. Iglesias became big during 1980’s and at the time there was a greater acceptance of immigrants, so while Julio Iglesias had an accent he was able to still reach the top of the U.S mainstream.
