Educational structures vary around the world, but what constitutes as the “best” practices for education? Sound practices for educational purposes should focus more on the students; a system that is reliant on student involvement and interpretation, while promoting friendly competition. In the enlightening video, “I just sued the school system!,” by rights activist Prince Ea, the faults of the school system are highlighted for its limitations. He proclaims, “I call school to the stand and accuse him of killing creativity, individuality and being intellectually abusive.” Students are limited by the school system with restraints on their intellectual freedom and creative expression, all in favor of an outdated monetized system they are told is necessary for their success, otherwise know as a college education. …show more content…

The school environment is setup to be similar to that of a factory, which is clearly evident in the ways students are expected to set in straight rows quietly until they are dismissed by a bell, continuing to the next station. Some schools even enforce a dress code, which is eerily similar to the construct of a factory job. Classroom structures like this could be a prime reason for students dreading school, or feeling as if it is one more task to complete in a repetitive day, killing intellectual freedom. Children should be placed in stimulating environments that will foster their will for learning.
In addition, student interest and creativity should not be excluded. Walter Lippman once said, “When all think alike, then no one is thinking.” If you tell a student what and how to think, what are they learning? Personal initiative from a student is the first sign of a hungering desire to learn. Students have the ability to do great things with self
