Growing up just like the average kid, I wanted to become a lawyer. Mostly because, it is something that every parent wishes for their children. The reason being, it is one of the most popular jobs in America and everyone knows that it is also one of the highest paying jobs. As a child gets older and understand the real world they notice that, not everyone is fit for a specific field in their career. I notice this change when I was in high school. I was involved in many different clubs in high school, but my favorite one was the Characters Club, it was designed to mentor younger student around our township (grades 3 to 6) on how to become an anti-bully zone. The biggest one in my eyes would be a self-actualizing person. A self- actualizing person is an ideal counselor. They are very open minded, has a good sense of humor, very creative. Being open for critic and knowing how to be patient is very important. Sometimes clients will try to say that, this or that must not be right and as a counselor you should be about alter or take extra time to explain why you (the counselor) thinks this is best for the client. Having a sense of humor would be the key to establish a bond with the client. Making them feel comfortable is the main objective. Once the client feels comfortable they will tend to open up and do into depth in their current situations. As I mentioned I knew I wanted to be a counselor but I never knew the step-in order to get my foot out the door. This course thought me the do’s and don’ts in order to be a successful counselor. I always knew that in order to be a counselor you must really want to help them, just like there are corrupt cops there would be counselors that will only do it for the money or because they believe it is an easy job. Every time anyone ask me what I am trying to do with my psychology degree, they look at me crazy and tell me that there is no money in that field. I respectful express to them that I am not doing this for the money. I want to wake up every morning and be grateful for doing something that I truly desire. I know copious amount of individuals that wake up every morning regretting there career. Sadly, but that is how society is build, everyone is just money hungry and now putting there all into their
