My reasoning for pursuing a career in law is simple: pure interest. Law is something that intrigues me and I am on the path to discovering that it is my passion as well. I have always wanted a career that I could look forward to getting up for every morning, one that I was excited about; therefore, I feel that the legal field is the best fit for me.
In my four years at the Haskayne School of Business I enjoyed my time learning and developing as an individual. Being in the workforce now, I continue to grow and develop my strengths but I’ve always felt like something was missing. During any time I had off, I’d spend it at the Court of Queen’s Bench and still do. Watching court cases in person fascinated me in a way that my business classes never had. I wanted to learn more and I wanted to be up there with the other attorneys. I decided I wanted to be a lawyer very early on in my life but I chose to pursue a Bachelor of Commerce degree so that I could set myself apart from other applicants. I feel that my educational background in business as well as in the workforce has led me to develop a different mindset; and thus will allow me to contribute a unique perspective in law school. Growing up in Calgary and having a plan on eventually settling down here, the UofC faculty of law would be the most ideal option for me. With how well the university is connected to other corporations, gaining a law degree at this institution would be beneficial for my future goals. Further, the faculty of law has continued to place an emphasis on forward thinking as well as preparing its students for a career in a challenging environment that is constantly changing. I didn’t have the chance to become as involved as I would like to have been, in regards to clubs and networking events on campus; however, this is an area I would like to work on in law
