COVER LETTER.

To The Attention of: KEVIN BROOKWELL

Sir, I welcome the opportunity to apply for the position for a Digital Communications Officer- Social Media, posting #14-95.
My 15 years of policing shared both in Calgary and England has given me varied experiences and knowledge of front line policing and public service. The various roles during my career have provided me an understanding and belief of truly valuing and maintaining public approval and support for the service.
I have a strong understanding of the role that social media communication plays in our society and the positive impact this has on the Calgary Police service and reputation management. I both understand and strongly believe that social media is currently the most powerful …show more content…

A policing example of my verbal communication is when I attended a call from bailiffs evicting a family from their home in April 2013. Being the contact officer I communicated with the Bailiff obtaining pertinent information and established a good rapport. I established the legality of the eviction and then spoke with the volatile evictee. I was able to calm him down talking respectfully and listened to his many concerns. I then explained the full process that was occurring slowly and clearly. I mediated to keep the peace, looking at the bigger picture I was able to persuade the bailiff to allow the family to remove some of the 2 small children’s possessions before locking up the house. I made sure all parties were happy with the police response and we remained at the location assisting in a peaceful resolution. As a result I received a positive letter from the bailiff commending the CPS on the approach and ability to communicate with all parties ending in a peaceful result. I find engaging with the public, providing help, advice, support and providing relevant information is a very satisfying part of my work. I enjoy being able to reach out to someone who needs help. I have policed for the past 15 years using emotional intelligence and operating with a balanced view. I always consider the bigger picture and the overall public
