‘Addicted’
In this day and age, it is almost effortless to fulfill a constant need of entertainment. This effortlessness creates a society where content controls and there is a lack of self discipline and hard work. Even when we are put in a controlled environment to focus on our work, we still find ways to fill our cravings with the fresh dopamine from social media. The world is addicted to smartphones. The convenience of having instant entertainment at any point of time wires our brain to want more and more. Some people can’t stand to not be with their phones at all times. These kids grow up in a society where everything is set up for them with no effort. There are apps, games, phones the size of a hand. This creates a younger society of addicts. These apps and games are designed to be addicting and the younger generations are most susceptible to it. Eddie states, “This creates a generation where there is no hunger to work hard to achieve success.” Eddie blew my mind when he opened my eyes to how phones affected different generations. I always thought of it as the world as a whole. This opens up a whole other variable in this essay, which is age. For the older generations, phones can connect them back to the world and help them out with tasks. It may take time to learn, but it would definitely be beneficial for the generation. Anybody who grew up without smartphones and smart technology, phones could really benefit them for communication and sharing of information. The bad thing is that those are the generations that are giving their kids phones at the age of 8. Children instantly become glued to their phone and it becomes an addiction in little to no time. Phones and apps are designed to be addicting. For example, the app Candy Crush used psychology principles in the creation of the game. Ema says, “Smartphones create an effortless outlet for people to troll and make fun of other people. They decide to let out their insecurities and troubles onto other people.” I do partially disagree with this point since you could easily make fun of other people through a computer, but she proved me wrong. Phones make it so you can make fun of people anywhere. Cyberbullying is a real thing that people face everyday and is a big issue in society. Since communication across the world is so easy to do now, you can bully from anywhere. Since you’re doing it from across the world, you aren’t going to get into any trouble with that person. This proves another point, which is that not only does the phone hurt people, but other people that are connected hurt
