Part three
Through working on the current unit, Scottish Benchmark statements (appendix 17) and my personal skills audit (appendix 18). Helped me to identify areas within my practice that I could change or improve on so I can better my practice.
Through reviewing the Scottish Benchmark statements (appendix 17) I was able to identify my personal strengths and equally my own areas if weakness, furthermore I was able to identify areas to help improve my practice. With respect to these I developed SMART targets to motivate myself and support the development of these areas (see appendix 17 in yellow). In order to change and improve I will need to work on my own practice, prioritising time and delegating other tasks to the staff in order to achieve these changes. As I delegate different tasks to the room leaders I will begin to reduce my own work load and in turn give me more time to implement positive changes to my practice. Additionally by allocating team leader’s different tasks to help increase their knowledge and understanding as well as developing their personal development. As I worked on formative task two (appendix 19 highlighted in yellow) this provided the opportunity to reflect and evaluate my current practice which I found helpful and this allowed me to monitor my practice and identify areas of improvement. Through reviewing my practice I identified that I should lower the amount of children in an activity, so that the learning experiences could be enhanced (appendix 19 in pink). The promotion pf learning experiences within the setting enhances an understanding and opportunity’s to assist play and children’s learning. (Nutkins et al, 2013). Reminding myself of the importance of reflection and how it links with development of both staff and the setting. Additionally by working on the unit and the skills audit (appendix 18) I have become more aware of the capability of my staff and how I should use their skills more to develop positive impacts in the setting. Throughout my career I have struggled to delegate tasks to my team, by working on this unit it has made me more aware if why I should delegate because In order to be more supportive I need to delegate more so staff can try different things. Furthermore, I have identified areas that I should continue to work on to improve myself and help benefit the setting.
