Servant Leadership Statement

My leadership statement is as follows; I will model and promote good character among those that I lead. I will let my employees know that I care about them, their career, and their personal lives. I will hold people accountable for their actions. I will utilize emotional intelligence for the political benefit of my team. I will strive to grow in leadership for the benefit of everyone.

Reflecting on the topic 2 self-assessment assignments, I found that I value my employees to have self-control, honesty, ambition, and to be capable. This has to be modeled through my behavior and leadership philosophy if I am to expect it from my employees. Stern (2021) stated that servant leadership supports servant followership. These are not necessarily interchangeable, but they complement and promote one another. One must find ways to serve every rank and serve the needs of others by taking care of them and the tasks set out before you. My servant leader philosophy is supported by my ability to follow when needed.

Servant leadership supports my personal beliefs as I think you are ready to be a leader when you are willing to take a back seat to others’ careers. A conscious capitalism described selfless approach, is the foundation for good leadership regardless of the style or philosophy you harbor. Gandolfi and Stone (2018) theorized that leadership style is less important than being self-aware and using emotional intelligence to lead in any organization. I applied this to my leadership statement and approach.

My servant/parental leadership style helps to build my influence by displaying caring leadership where accountability comes from a place of professionalism, love, and trust. I also like to show that I am willing to work and serve at any level, not just in my role as a
