The final buzzer sounds at the college basketball National Championship Game. As the MVP of the game walks of the court at the conclusion of his freshman season, he knows he has a tough decision ahead of him to make. Knowing he won't get anything more than a scholarship while in college, he has to choose between turning pro and getting a large salary, or staying in college and pursuing a degree while he has the opportunity. They should continue to not be paid like all of the amateur sports and athletes. In the article, ¨Paying College Athletes¨, the author writes, "Amateur players are those athletes who are engaged in sports for the physical, mental or social benefits they get from participation and to whom athletics is an avocation and not a source of personal financial remuneration.”. Like high school and youth sports, participating in sports at the college level is a choice and most athletes use it for the many benefits other than getting paid. While others are just using the few years to get ready to fulfill their dreams and make the pro leagues.
