Why the use of Recreational Marijuana Should be Prohibited The dangers of second-hand smoke from cigarettes are well seen, so logic would tell us that more general use of marijuana would increase the likelihood that other people would suffer the same damage of inhaling smoke, but from a heavy drug. The use of recreational marijuana is an important topic because it has been argued about for years. Marijuana should only be used medically, and should be illegal to use recreationally because of the dangers it can cause to the users and the people around them. This use of marijuana can also increase crimes, such as DUI’s, or driving under the influence of drugs. Making the drug legal would encourage people to use it while driving and operating other machinery. DUI’s are already a problem, and making the drug acceptable will make the problem greater. Another crime may include stealing from weed stores, if younger consumers feel the prices are too high, and the stores are open, they can just steal the merchandise drug. A common misconception is that marijuana isn’t harmful. But as previously stated, it is very damaging to the body. Recreational marijuana should be banned because it can cause a number of health problems to those who use it and those around them and it has a gateway drug nature. “Marijuana emergency room admissions are reported at the rate of 1,250 a day and 455,000 a year. And highway crashes double for marijuana users.
