Kaleb Diers Ms. Champion Kirkwood Comp April 9th 2024 Transfer Portal Consequenses The article titled, “Many Players Finding The Grass Looks Greener Through The College Transfer Portal” was written by Don Yaeger during the fall of 2023 and featured on Forbes. It was an informative piece aimed at breaking down the problems of college athletes switching universities. To elaborate, the transfer portal is a term coined by college sports where athletes looking to leave their team can then enter their name into a database for opposing coaches to recruit them. The issue that arises now is that players aren’t required to sit out a year for reasons of eligibility, and athletes are seen as lazy by cutting corners. Yaeger directed this passage toward the fans of college sports to
Lastly, Alessandro Portelli’s They Say in Harlan County supports my argument in terms of rivalries. In Harlan County, Lynch football and basketball were known to be the best. The football team and basketball team had higher status than others and were glorified in the communities. Even during early development in this Appalachian county, rivalry was always a topic of discussion.
This point made by Applet shows the true number of students that are transferring while making it clear and concise for readers to understand. Applet shows the perspective of college athletes on education is ever shifting, and now with the considerable amounts of NIL deals being produced, it has become quite distracting and has led to an excessive number of students transferring schools. Applet also discusses how athletes need to stay level-headed while the college sports world is becoming this “ever-changing landscape” defining how to stay focused and not get too wrapped up in the NIL deal and incentive opportunities. Applet focuses on using logic and reasoning in this section, showing how transferring schools has become somewhat of a persuasive trend by using the example of discussing the dwindling number of four-year players at
Saint Louis University is a better college campus than Eureka College. Saint Louis University has much better food than Eureka College does. When I visited SLU I realized how great the food was. All of the food tasted like it was prepared by hand, and there were a lot of different dinning options. Eureka, on the other hand, has a lot less dinning options.
Due to the enormous population of California, it does have lower in-state tuition rates, however, the wages in California are greatly larger than those of the demographics in Kentucky. There are fewer postsecondary institutions in Kentucky perhaps leads to why the cost may be more than in California. The higher education Master Plan in California if by far more complex than Kentucky and due to roles of three bodies, California Community Colleges (CCC), California State University (CSU), and the University of California (UC). Each one of those has boards that are afforded a significant amount of control as opposed to Kentucky’s Council on Postsecondary Education. The concern in higher education is funding particularly post-pandemic.
The polls, rankings of colleges, are constantly changing, because the top ranked teams are defeated by the unexpected victors. This scenario is demonstrated in all sports, whether they are professional or amateur, just like James Baldwin

“Our new pro-growth tax policy will be like a shot of adrenaline into the heart of the Kansas economy” is how Governor Sam Brownback introduced his plan to help the Kansas economy get better (Rosenberg, 2015). Brownback’s plan was to cut taxes to that the state would somehow make money off of those cuts. Politicians are the driving force that creates change both good and bad in our nation. Kansas Governor, Sam Brownback has impacted the state in many ways. Brownback has created his own tax cut policy that is ruining our education system, putting small towns in debt and lowering the employment opportunities.

During this project I collected data on sport preference from Texas residents. The survey and project shows how Texas residents feel about the popularity of college sports. The survey includes the following college sports: Football, Basketball and Soccer. The goal of the survey was to see what the Texas population perceived to be the bigger sport. The survey I conducted was not bias and was a random survey given to random people that I surveyed at the University of Texas at Austin, Southern Methodist University and the University of North Texas.
Something that is new to me is that in Kentucky Core Academic Standards there is school expectations in it. An example is that a school must increase student attendance rate and reduce physical and mental health barriers to learning. Something that I read that surprised me was that the KY Core Academic Standards is only an outline of the minimum content standards required for all students before graduating from a public high school in Kentucky. I believed that the KY Core Academic Standards expressed all required content standards that students must know before graduating. In the KY Core Academic Standards, it explains how it helps to ensure that all students are being provided with common content and receive the same opportunities to learn.

Secondly, after reading the study’s abstract, I was able to see that the researchers used many different measures to compare the achievement of athletes vs. non-athletes, including standardized test scores, GPA, graduation rates, and number of dropouts, and they made comparisons based on gender, ethnicity, and grade level; all of this allowed me to appreciate the depth of the study.
