With the recent rout in mineral prices and slowdown in mining, SNC-Lavalin announced that it will cut 4000 jobs in a cost cutting effort and to wind down its operations in mining and metallurgy. Additionally, the recent bear market in oil as well as natural gas has caused a slow-down in projects such as oil refineries and processing plant, an area that contributes a significant portion of SNC-Lavalin’s revenue. However, with borrowing rates low with continuing cuts of key rates by central banks, SNC-Lavalin can offset some of its declining revenue with new projects in infrastructure driven by leverage through debt capital markets.
Continuous development of technology has allowed SNC-Lavalin to digitize more and more of its work. This allows the company to reduce cost but still add further value to its clients in the form of extensive modelling software.
