Walmart is one of the top leading online retailers today, but there is still the potential for them to grow and expand to all of the four social media zones. Social media uses the zones and media to help to increase the awareness and influences desires (Tuten & Solomon, 2013). Once those two steps are successful, it encouraging the consumer to sample the product through a free trial. Next, social media is used to help facilitate the purchase of items (Tuten & Solomon, 2013). To me this is one of the areas that may be a problem because a large percentage of people who want to use e-commerce end up not purchasing items because of problems with the retailer's website (Bethel University, 2016). Walmart has a total of 7 Twitter handles along with @WalmartHub that helps the organization build brand and consumer relations, while also sharing brand content (Pollitt, 2014). The @WalmartHub account on Twitter is solely responsible for only retweets/re-sharing of information on Walmart brand or products from customers (Pollitt, 2014). Currently, Wal-Mart has over 32 million likes on Facebook (Walmart, 2016). The online retailer is also using Pinterest as a social marketing media tool. Walmart has two Pinterest accounts, where one aimed more at product ideas the other one promotes green living (Moth, 2013). “The product-focused account has more than 12,000 followers and has created 65 boards, while the green living account has just over 2,000 followers” (Moth, 2013, para. 20). It would be a game where the user have a set number minutes they choose. The user could select the departments in which they choose to want to see the deals, promotions, roll-back prices, and/or regular price. The user would see the front of their shopping cart and have virtual shelves with the department items as they stroll through the aisles like they would in real-life and enter things into their carts. The quicker time and greater discount percentage off/reward they would be able to use on their purchase. To me this would be able to provide consumers a game-like fun experience for shopping, while also getting the customer through the purchasing process quicker to be able to get the discount/reward. Of course, this is just a brainstorming idea I thought would be a way for Walmart to look to combine the two zones, there would be several exclusions and issues that would need to be worked
