Decisions In recognizing the numerous potential ethical business elements and regulatory issues outlined previously, business decisions will have to be made to uphold Southwest’s corporate strategy, brand image, and corporate culture. For Southwest, specifically, ethical business elements include, crewmember treatment, consumer booking practices, procurement practices, safety and environmental reporting, and advertising. Whereas, regulatory issues for Southwest include, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) governance, in addition to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) governance. Ethically, the motivation for a diverse workforce is to best represent and resonate with consumers who come from various backgrounds. Similarly, the drive for equitable pay is a strong social justice issue, which promotes an equal playing field for all employees to succeed. Together, these elements coupled with suitable working conditions, such as appropriate hourly scheduling and accommodations, provide accountability to the communities in which Southwest operates. For example, when employing a diverse group of individuals from the communities in which Southwest operates, and giving them equal opportunity to succeed and earn, their morale and satisfaction is enhanced, and subsequently employees establish roots in these communities. While a commit to diversity is important, or purchasing from disadvantaged business enterprises, and obtaining environmentally sound goods, so is compensating these organizations justly. Southwest has a commitment and business advantage to offering the lowest fares possible, however, the negotiation of purchasing products should align with fare trade practices. Therefore, business decisions should be made with these elements in mind, drawing on ethical decision making principle
