What would you do with $1,285,000, how about 18.4 billion dollars? That is enough money to supply the average American with food for almost 7,000 years. “Where is all this money going to?” Well, I am so glad you asked. These 18.4 billion dollars goes towards the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) for space exploration. Should the US quit funding the space program? NASA shouldn’t shut down completely, but they should watch their spendings. The time has come to pull the plug on some of the space funding.

Should we not take care of our home first? There are many needs in America. The U.S poverty rate is 12.7%. This rate may not seem very high but has increased since 2007 by .2%. That means out of 100 people in America 12 people live in poverty. The US population is 321.1 million. Out of that 321.1 million, 40 million live in poverty. Education in America is key, without education there is no stability in the nation. Without space exploration, the US wouldn’t know about other planets, stars, and moons. With these discoveries, the American people have come together. Every time NASA would launch a rocket, the US people would come together and watch in awe. Space exploration has also kept us in the race for world domination. With other private space programs such as SpaceX, Virgin Galactic, and SpaceDev, now there is help in space exploration. Although these are private companies they can still work with NASA to improve the US space programs. Since there are private programs NASA could take less funding while the US still moves forward in space exploration. In the past sixty years, Americans have sent a satellite to space (Pioneer 3), men to the moon (Apollo 11), and people to live in space (International Space Station).
